Metro Association Spring 2015 Meeting
“That They May All Be One”

First Congregational Church of Chappaqua
210 Orchard Ridge Road
Chappaqua, NY 10514

Rev. Ian Rottenberg

Rev. Ian Rottenberg

“What a beautiful day for a meeting!”  These were the opening words from our worship preacher, Rev. Ian Rottenberg, Teaching Pastor at Garden City Community Church.  He helped us understand that although the person to whom he had listened on the radio as he drove to First Congregational Church in Chappaqua had asserted that anyone who wasn’t outside in shorts was, shall we say, “crazy”, we really were in the right place – meeting in this beautiful sanctuary where we might listen and share to bring the unity for which Jesus prayed.  Rottenberg pointed out that none of us can see the whole picture.  Thus, only by hearing from the experiences of others can we share in the joy of being unified.

Board President Grant and Parliamentarian Zipf
Board President Grant and Parliamentarian Zipf
Primary focus of the business meeting was the nomination and election of Metro Association officers, member of the Board of Directors and Standing Committees.  In the process we got a lesson in parliamentary procedure.  Our by-laws provide “All proposed amendments must have been posted on the UCC website and mailed to the members without internet access at least thirty (30) days prior to the meeting at which the vote is to be taken.”  Because this notice was not given, a proposal to expand the Board of Directors to 19, up one from the 18 provided in the by-laws, was ruled out of order.  Several people also rose to remind us that “The Nominating Committee shall present to the Annual Meeting of the Association the nominations…”, not the Board of Directors.

Installation of Those Serving in 2015-2016
Installation of Those Serving in 2015-2016

Nominations from the floor supplemented those presented by the Nominating Committee, and all were elected without dissent.  All those who will serve in 2015-2016 came to the front of the sanctuary to be installed by Freeman Palmer, Associate Conference Minister for Congregational Development.

Treasurer Bonnie Duval
Treasurer Bonnie Duval

Treasurer Bonnie Duval reported Metro’s books will be audited by an outside firm before the end of this year, with a report presented at the Fall Meeting.  She also responded to a question from the floor regarding the $413,152.15 “Loans Receivable” on the balance sheet.  This is the mortgage Christhava Tamil Koil is paying off for the church at 79-11 Caldwell Avenue in Middle Village.

Certificates for Support of Wider Church

Rev. Palmer presented certificates to those churches who contributed to Our Church’s Wider Mission (OCWM) and to those churches who not only contributed to OCWM but to One Great Hour of Sharing, Neighbors in Need, Strengthen the Church and the Christmas Fund.  He invited attendance at the Healthy Congregations Workshop on Saturday, May 2 at the Congregational Church of Manhasset.
