New Leadership For
Metro Association & New York Conference

Lennox Grant
Lennox Grant

Metro unanimously elected a new set of leaders (see full elected slate here) which included Lennox Grant (Church of the Evangel) as President of the Board of Directors and Bonnie Duval (Westbury Community Church) as Treasurer.  They succeed Rev. Dr. Martha R. Jacobs outgoing President and Harold Chapman, outgoing Treasurer.

NY Conference Interim Minister Rita Root and Metro Members of the Executive Council, Martha Jacobs and Erv Graves, presented a new structure for the NY Conference which will be voted upon at the Conference Annual Meeting June 8-10.  The proposed structure was developed during three years of listening and discernment; it emphasizes collaboration between the national, conference, association and local church settings.  In the Conference setting there would be four ministry teams:  Administration, Congregational Development, Leadership Development, Wider Church.  A 15-member Conference Board would replace the current Executive Council, and a Governance Team would replace the current Nominating Committee.  Geographic representation on the Conference Board would be at the regional level, rather than the association level.  Metro and Suffolk Associations would compose the Southeast Region and thus have one representative on the Conference Board.

In worship Rev. Dr. Cari Jackson challenged us:  "Don't Let Your Ego Block Your Healing".  She suggested that we each have masks (persona) to protect ourselves.  These masks can get in the way of the thing(s) that are out of line in our lives.  They can block our ability to hear God's call.  Once we let go of the masks, we may be shocked by what we hear and may proclaim, "God, you want me to do what????"

Food and Fellowship

It wouldn't be a Metro Association meeting without an opening breakfast and a closing lunch, this time graciously hosted by the United Church of Rockville Centre, Rev. Peter Dennebaum, Interim Minister.  Freshly baked cookies were a special lunch treat.

  • Being invited to help host the June 2013 NY Conference Annual Meeting - which includes finding a new host church, for renovations at Park Avenue Christian Church will not be completed in time for them to host.  Rev.
