Our People


There would be no churches, no associations, no conferences, no United Church of Christ without the people.

Here are some who gathered for the 2013 Metro Fall Meeting.

In the Metro tradition, we gathered for food and fellowship before the Meeting. We greeted familiar friends, and made new ones. Our Executive Administrator, Louise Manigault, determined “it’s time to begin”.

The beautiful altar of the Corona Congregational Church, UCC, greeted us as we entered the sanctuary. Our call to worship ended with “God’s steadfast love endures forever, and God’s faithfulness to all   generations. Our opening hymn was “This is the Day he Lord Has Made”.

Metro Chaplain Earl Graves gave the prayer of invocation. The energy of the youth of the Tehillah Liturgical Dance Ministry of the Congregational Church of South   Hempstead filled the sanctuary. Soon we were swaying with the rhythm of their dance.

Minister Wally Merna of Bethany Congregational Church invited us to pass the peace of Christ. We greeted one another. Rev. Mark Lukens of Bethany Congregational Church prayed for our youth and elders.

Rev. Jack Lohr of the Church in the Highlands led us in the prayer of confession and words of assurance. Rev. Dr. Robert W. Gunn of the Community Church of Syosset led us in prayers for our churches and our   association. Rev. Noel Vanek of the Community Church of the Pelhams lit a candle of remembrance for clergy and   lay leaders.
