Sunday

Cheers erupted when Michael Caine appeared at Sunday breakfast in a suit. Conference children presented “Ben’s Barbecue” based on the parable of the prodigal son. Voices from many cultures made up the Sunday choir.

Our German guests included this organist who shared his gifts in Sunday worship. We lift our voices and arms in song. Children had their own time in Sunday worship.

We lift our voices in prayer. We say farewell to Geoffrey, Michael and David. “We express gratitude for your time among us – for these many years.” Our Sunday scripture was John 3:1-17.

Maren Tirabassi, who led Casting Your Nets worship workshops, was the preacher in Sunday worship. Her sermon was “What We Learn from Old Saint Nic’”. “We give thanks for water” in the closing Thanksgiving Litany for Water”. Our service ended with a commitment in water – “Receive the water sprinkled on you for the grace that you need in this day…”

“Sing a New Church”, our closing hymn for this, the 46th Annual Meeting of the New York Conference, United Church of Christ. This young man was fascinated by the balloon globe with band aids – symbolizing God’s love for the world. Silver Bay food was excellent. Sunday lunch was an appropriate ending to an inspirational weekend.
